Nifty at a Critical Turning Point: Why 22,182 Is the Key Level to Watch!
Oct 05, 2026
Nifty has reached a crucial juncture after the sharp decline toward 22,217. The 22,182 level remains the key support, while Neo Wave, Ichimoku Cloud and Nifty–Crude Oil ratio analysis point to an important phase ahead.
Nifty has been moving in a highly volatile fashion over the past few weeks. Prices witnessed a sharp decline touching 22,217 on October 1. Interestingly, Nifty managed to protect the April 2 low of 22,182 by a significant margin.
We consider this level of 22,182 as the “GPS of the market” because it provides the address of the market's current positioning and helps us understand where we stand from a future perspective.

Nifty Daily Chart: A Diametric Pattern in Progress
As we can see from the Nifty daily chart, after completing Wave (D) on the upside near the 24,600 level, Nifty witnessed a sharp decline. This decline appears to be forming a diametric pattern, as per the Neo Wave concept.
The decline from the Wave (D) high has developed in a manner that fits the structure of a diametric pattern. Within this structure, Wave e has achieved equality with Wave c, and we are now seeing the formation of Wave f, which is currently showing some retracement on the upside.
However, despite the recent recovery, price action continues to remain weak.
It has now been approximately six to seven trading sessions during which Nifty has not closed below the prior day's high. This keeps the overall short-term undertone on the sell side for now.
The equality between the relevant waves provides an important structural reference point, and the ongoing Wave f recovery should therefore be viewed in the context of the larger pattern rather than automatically interpreted as a fresh bullish trend.
The Nifty daily chart below also shows the AK indicator, which has been customized to help us understand changes in trend, the overall wave pattern and potential buy and sell opportunities.
As visible on the chart, the three Ichimoku lines continue to remain connected on the downside. This indicates that the broader undertone remains weak.
The recent upmove can therefore be interpreted as Wave f of the larger diametric pattern rather than a confirmed trend reversal.
Once Wave f completes, we could again see the development of Wave g on the downside. However, there is one extremely important condition that needs to be watched.
22,182 Is the Critical Level
Wave G should ideally protect the 22,182 low for the larger-degree triangle pattern to remain intact.
This makes 22,182 a very important level for Nifty.
If this level is breached, the entire pattern could potentially evolve into a much larger corrective structure. In that scenario, we would come out with alternative counts.
Until such a breach occurs, our expectation is that Nifty could continue to move within a broad range of approximately 22,180–22,720.
Nifty–Crude Oil Ratio: A Contrarian Signal
Another important chart we are monitoring is the Nifty-to-Crude Oil ratio.
This is a classic ratio chart that measures Nifty relative to crude oil, with Nifty in the numerator and crude oil in the denominator.
Nifty / Crudeoil Ratio chart:

Since 2016, the ratio has repeatedly moved within an important swing zone of approximately 1.90 to 2.10.
Interestingly, the recent low in the Nifty-to-Crude Oil ratio is once again approaching this important zone.
This does not necessarily mean that Nifty will immediately outperform crude oil from here. However, the ratio chart does provide an interesting perspective against the argument that rising crude oil prices will automatically result in a major breakdown in Nifty.
In fact, the ratio is showing the possibility of the opposite scenario.
Therefore, as long as the lower end of this ratio near 1.90 remains intact, it may be preferable to remain relatively better positioned with Nifty rather than crude oil at the current juncture.
This is an important chart to watch because it provides a perspective that may not be immediately visible from the Nifty price chart alone.
Nifty Time Cycles: October Could Be Important
Along with price structure, time cycles are also approaching an important phase.
The 85-day time cycle for Nifty is now due. However, time cycles should not be treated in isolation. We need confirmation from price action before concluding that a meaningful reversal has occurred.
A certain amount of tolerance or delay of approximately 10% should also be considered around the cycle window.
This makes October an important month from the time-cycle perspective.
The next important date to watch is approximately November 5, based on the 55-day cycle.
Therefore, the coming weeks could become important from both a price and time perspective.
Nifty Outlook: Don't Chase Breakouts
In a nutshell, Nifty is currently at a crucial juncture.
The important levels to monitor are:
- 22,182: Critical structural support and the key “GPS” level.
- 22,720: Upper end of the broader expected range.
At present, breakouts should not be chased. Given the current market pattern, traders looking for short-term opportunities may be better served by identifying reversals and managing risk carefully.
Positional trades should be approached with caution because we are still not completely out of the woods.
The weekly trend has not closed above the prior week's high for approximately eight weeks, while the daily trend has also not produced a convincing positive close.
Therefore, price action has yet to confirm the potential time-based reversal.
The key level remains 22,182. As long as this level holds, the larger pattern remains intact and Nifty could continue to oscillate within the broader 22,180–22,720 range. A decisive breach of 22,182, however, would require us to revisit the entire wave structure and consider alternative Neo Wave counts.
For now, patience remains important. Let price action confirm the reversal rather than anticipating it.
